Dzil Libei Elementary School is an incredible publicly funded institution that has been a blessing to many residents of Cameron, Arizona. Dzil Libei Elementary School, located in Coconino County, has been playing a significant role in educating children in the Coconino County community. Dzil Libei Elementary School offers K-5 education to many Coconino County students in need of quality education at a reputable public school.

Letter From The DLES Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,


Good afternoon! I hope you and your children are enjoying a wonderful and safe summer vacation. We are pleased to share exciting news regarding the critical infrastructure progress at Dzil Libei Elementary School (DLES).


On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the district received official confirmation that necessary project funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been formally identified to complete the school’s water pipeline project.


We are currently waiting for these funds to be officially transferred to the implementing organization. Once the transfer is finalized, the construction and final phase of the project to bring a permanent, operational water supply to the campus will begin immediately.


Because of this timeline, our currently projected reopening date for the campus is October 2026, pending construction and any unforeseen delays.


To ensure your child's education continues without interruption during the first quarter, please review the two options available for your family below:


Option 1: Temporary Enrollment at Tuba City Elementary
• Families who wish to enroll their children in a local brick-and-mortar classroom for the first quarter can temporarily enroll at Tuba City Elementary School.


Option 2: Remain Enrolled at Tsinaabaas Habitiin Elementary (with Parent Transportation)
• If you want your child to remain a student with us at Tsinaabaas Habitiin Elementary, they will be served via alternative accommodations.
• Morning Drop-Off: Parents must personally transport their child to Hidden Springs to catch the school bus.
• Afternoon Pick-Up: Parents will be responsible for picking up their child directly from Hidden Springs at the end of the school day.


We understand that these options may present challenges. Please know that we are fully committed to supporting your family through this transition. As we receive further updates, we will share that information with you as soon as possible.

 

We know this has been an incredibly long wait, and we deeply appreciate your resilience. I remain incredibly hopeful that our school doors will be open soon to serve the wonderful students of the Cameron and Grey Mountain communities.

Building Blocks of Crisis Response

HOLD

“In Your Classroom or Area”

Students are trained to:

  • Clear the hallways and remain in their area or room until the “All Clear” is announced. 
  • Do business as usual.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Close and lock the door.
  • Account for students and adults.
  • Do business as usual.

SECURE

“Get Inside, Lock Outside Doors”

Security is called when there is something dangerous outside of the building. Example: wild animal, nearby police investigation, etc.

Students are trained to:

  • Return to the inside of the building. 
  • Business as usual.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring everyone indoors. 
  • Lock the outside doors.
  • Increase situational awareness.
  • Account for students and adults.
  • Business as usual.

LOCKDOWN

“Locks, Lights, Out of Sight”

A lockdown is only initiated when there is an active threat inside or very close to the building. 

Students are trained to:

  • Move away from sight.
  • Maintain silence.
  • Do not open the door.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Recover students from the hallway if possible.
  • Lock the classroom door. 
  • Turn out the lights. 
  • Move away from sight.
  • Maintain silence. 
  • Do not open the door. 
  • Prepare to evade or defend. 

EVACUATE

“To a Location”

Students are trained to:

  • Leave stuff behind if required to.
  • If possible, bring their phone.
  • Follow instructions.

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring roll sheet and Go Bag (unless instructed not to bring anything with them, dependent on the reason for evacuation).
  • Lead students to the Evacuation location.
  • Account for students and adults. 
  • Report injuries or problems using Red Card/Green Card method.

SHELTER

“State Hazard & Safety Strategy”

Hazards might include:

  • Tornado
  • Hazmat
  • Earthquake
  • Tsunami

Safety strategies might include:

  • Evacuate to the shelter area.
  • Seal the room.
  • Drop, cover, and hold.
  • Get to high ground.

Students are trained in:

  • Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Appropriate Hazards and Safety Strategies.
  • Accounting for students and adults.
  • Report injuries or problems using the Red Card/Green Card method.
